Pinterest Restyle Uses AI to Let You Redesign Your Room Before You Buy

Pinterest Restyle Uses AI to Let You Redesign Your Room Before You Buy

Pinterest has long been a destination for finding inspiration for a new living room, bedroom, kitchen, or home makeover. Now the company wants AI to help users see those ideas inside their actual homes.

Pinterest is introducing Restyle, a new AI-powered feature that allows people to photograph a room and virtually redesign it using natural-language instructions.

Launching initially in beta in the U.S. and Canada, Restyle is powered by Pinterest Intelligence, the company’s underlying AI technology.

The goal is to bridge an important gap between inspiration and action: instead of simply saving furniture, artwork, colors, and interior-design ideas to a board, users can visualize how those choices might look in their own space.

Take a Photo and Start Redesigning

Restyle begins with something simple: a picture of your room.

From there, users can ask Pinterest’s AI to modify different elements of the space.

For example, someone could request new wall art, replace furniture, add accessories, introduce plants, experiment with different lighting, or change the paint color.

Items discovered through Pinterest can also be incorporated into the visualization.

Users aren’t limited to redesigning the entire room at once. They can select individual objects and ask the AI to replace or remove them, providing more precise control over the final design.

That makes the feature more like an interactive AI design workspace than a traditional inspiration board.

Want a Completely Different Style? Just Ask

Restyle can also transform the overall aesthetic of a room.

Instead of manually choosing every object, users can ask Pinterest to visualize their space using a particular interior-design style.

Examples highlighted by the company include bohemian, industrial, whimsical, and dopamine-inspired designs.

This could make experimenting with interior design significantly easier for people who know the atmosphere they want but don’t necessarily know which individual products, colors, or accessories will create it.

Rather than imagining the result from separate Pinterest images, users can see an AI-generated interpretation applied directly to their room.

Pinterest Intelligence Powers the Experience

Behind Restyle is Pinterest Intelligence, which combines Pinterest’s own technology with open-source AI models and infrastructure involving Nvidia Blackwell GPUs and Nvidia Dynamo.

Pinterest’s partnership with Nvidia is intended to strengthen several AI capabilities across the platform.

That includes improving Pinterest Assistant’s handling of visual-search requests and turning user searches into stronger signals for AI-powered discovery and shopping.

Restyle provides a clear consumer-facing example of how that infrastructure could be used.

From Pinning Products to Visualizing Purchases

AI-powered room redesign isn’t entirely new. Generative AI assistants and specialized interior-design applications have already demonstrated similar capabilities.

Pinterest, however, has an important advantage: people already use the platform specifically to discover and save design inspiration.

That means Restyle can potentially connect discovery, visualization, and commerce inside the same experience.

Imagine saving a chair, lamp, painting, and coffee table to Pinterest, then asking AI to place those products inside a photo of your living room.

Seeing those products in context could make it easier to decide whether they fit the space — and potentially make users more confident about purchasing them.

For Pinterest, that creates a much shorter path from Pin to purchase.

AI Could Become Pinterest’s Shopping Layer

Pinterest previewed Restyle during its annual Pinterest Presents event, alongside new advertising products including visual-search ads and app-promotion capabilities.

Restyle is currently being introduced as an early preview, with a broader rollout planned for next month.

The feature also illustrates Pinterest’s evolving role in AI-powered commerce.

Pinterest has historically helped users answer the question: “What should my room look like?”

Generative AI allows the platform to address a much more useful question:

“What would this actually look like in my room?”

That small difference could have major implications for online shopping.

If Pinterest can successfully combine its enormous collection of visual inspiration with personalized AI visualization, it could transform saved ideas from passive mood boards into interactive shopping experiences.

The future of Pinterest may not simply be discovering your next design idea — it could be seeing that idea inside your home before spending a dollar on it.
