Generative AI is a type of artificial intelligence, or AI, that creates original content in response to user prompts. This content can take many forms, including an answer to a question, a summary of a meeting transcript or email thread, organising tables of data, as well as forecasts and insights about that data.
Generative AI typically needs to understand and generate text, and one of the most common ways to do that is by using what’s called a large language model, or LLM. LLMs are created by analysing vast amounts of text data to identify intricate language patterns, recognise context and learn how words relate to each other to convey meaning. Then they use that analysis to generate text in response to prompts by predicting the most probable next word based on the details and context of the prompt.
